Sump Gasket Replacement

Post by steve747 »

HI
Sump gasket replacement on 1600cc . has any one done with success.
Only i have managed to undo all the bolts i have manged to get movement down by a inch.
Could you tell me if i have to remove the rear engine mounting, and the downpipe pipe exhaust.

Any help would be appreciated..

Seems to be a lot of hassle just to replace a gasket..

Thanks

You have to get sump low enough to clear oil pump pickup, so take off exhaust front pipe which is not hard. Do it with exhaust warm ideally

Hi
this was not a quick job,i removed the exhaust down pipe , to find that the bracket that holds the air con and alternator had to be removed as the bracket was over hanging the sump so it had to be removed.
Also the rear engine mount had to be undone as it was hitting sump pan.

Quite a long job but it was worth it..
A big thanx for your reply Capncol..i did have to remove down pipe..

thanks
