Help with crankshaft timing

Post by Fihen »

I have mucked up completely and need advice. I have just fitted a new head gasket to my tu5jp4 engine. Not an easy task however I could not pin the crankshaft. The access hole has been blanked off.
I did pin the camshaft though but didn't think to mark the position of the crankshaft and when I went to put the timing belt back it wouldn't mind up with the cogs.
I can only assume the crankshaft has moved and here is where I am hoping for advice. My thoughts are pin the camshaft with timing belt off and then find top dead centre on number one cylinder by rotating the crankshaft in clockwise direction.
Any thoughts anyone????
This is a classic case of a little knowledge is dangerous.
