Hi again.
Today I've had very pleasant trip down at the local scrap yard to squirrel some parts away.
The weather was perfect and the Peugeots I found where nice and easy to get to.
The one thing that's been bugging me since I bought my car was the near side wing.
It's got a small dent in the arch lip to which is virtually invisible if your not OCD like me.
I've treated it to protect it from the elements but I think it's only a matter of time before it spreads on to the "facing out" part of the wing and ruining the otherwise immaculate looking little car, especially as it's in the firing line of road spray coming off the wheels.
I've been scouring eBay for a second hand one for the same colour as mine to no success.
I'm also a little reluctant to buy one over the Internet as photos can hide a multitude of sins of the paintwork.
Then you've got the risk of it getting damaged by the couriers as it threads it's way from depot to depot and uncaring delivery drivers.
Well today I found a spotless wing down at the local scrappys ,and it was the exact colour as mine!!
So me and my ex brother in-law where there today armed with a tool box and set about getting it off.As it's going to be refitted to my car sometime in the future he decided to remove it from the donor car with care so that we could get an understanding of how it all comes apart without destroying , snapping or breaking clips ect.
This is because I don't want to end up breaking my car, when the time comes to fit it (does that make any sense)
So it was bonnet open and the removal of the front grill.Once removed we unclipped the plastic trim from under the light.
This then gave access to the bolts that holds the light in place.Once undone, the light easily comes out revealing the wing fixtures to the front of the wing.
There's two fixtures their, one bolt came out easily but the other nut was a nightmare. It was seized and it started to spin the bolt inside the wheel arch.
It took some getting to reach it as we couldn't get anything in there to grip the bolt but after a small battle it finally loosened off with copious amounts of WD40 and cursing.
Once off ,the front of the wing can be gently prised away giving access to the bolt by the A pillar
As soon as its loosened it just simply lifts up and it was free..
After taking a breather I then spotted a set of Chrome rear hoops on another car.
Whoo hoo I wasn't letting them go ,so we had them as well.
I also grabbed a spare alloy wheel the same as mine (I don't like those emergency type foam things that come with the car) and some rubber door seals (well you never know)
and then it was down to the pub for a swift half.
I paid a fraction of what I would of paid via Internet auction sites and at the same time learnt a little of how these cars are screwed together.
Edit...... Don't forget there's also two bolts to undo on the top of the wing too
All the very best,

Re: Having a good day at the scrap yard today
I hope your donor car is also a 206CC. The wing of the hatchback and estate is different and will not fit.
Re: Having a good day at the scrap yard today
Yes, the donor car was a 206 cc. Their quite hard to spot the difference between the flared and none flared wings until you get them side by side and study them.
If it wasn't for the wealth of information I've got from this site from good people like yourself,I would of been blissfully unaware there was a difference.
I've noticed that photos on eBay ect with wings for sale their virtually impossible sometimes to distinguish between the two types.
Tonight I've given it a good clean down followed by a polish and wax.
The next step will be to treat the back of it with a good coat of wax oyl and then put it safe in the garage ready for when I need it.

Re: Having a good day at the scrap yard today
Whilst talking about subtle differences between cars I did notice on this 206 cc donor car the roof panel looked slightly different to mine.At first I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was until the penny finally dropped.
Running from the front to the rear of the roof panel it had two plastic colour coordinated plastic strips close to the door shuts.
A design I can imagine to stop the rain water from running off the roof and on to you as you get in and out.Taking them off I discovered they had locating dowels in them and a holes in the roof to get them perfectly aligned.
Was this a factory ungrade that appeared over the years of manufacturing them ?
Another car I found , not a cc but a once cherished 206 hatch had some chrome aftermarket door handle covers. They simply peeled off so I grabbed them as well, and they fit the 206 cc perfectly.I haven't decided whether I like them or not yet before I commit to fixing them on.
