Peugeot 206cc 1.6L (2001) Not Starting

Suddenly out of the blue my '51 plate 206cc won't start up. I get a fast clicking on the first turn, together with the battery light flickering. Then when turning ignition fully on, nothing. I think I can hear a further click coming from the engine bay fuse/relay box. Battery has been tested, charged and a replacement tried just to rule that out, but still nothing. Jumper leads don't help. I'm thinking it needs a new starter but before I pay out to get that replaced I wondered if there was anything else I can try myself. Any help would be much appreciated. Not sure what you mean by "first turn". Are you referring to the key, or the engine? If the key, is the clicking when you hold the key in the start position, and does the engine then turn?

I put the key in the ignition, turn it one stage and get a fast ticking and all the dials are flickering, then when I turn the key fully the ignition lights all come on but there is nothing from the engine... doesn't turn over or even attempt to.

Your guess about the starter is most unlikely, as the starter does not come into operation when the key is turned to the first stage. The fault is almost certainly electrical.

The first thing to try is a BSI reboot. See http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 23&t=13473.

The bit about resetting the remote key is optional (unless the remote key does not work).

If it does not help, try once or twice more. It does not always work the first time.

If still no go, measure the battery volts (e.g. with a multimeter) with the key in first stage, and report the behaviour. Is the reading constant and what value, or does it vary and between what values?

I tried the BSI reboot as per the link provided, with no luck. Battery shows 12.60V when key turned to the first stage of ignition.

Is there any way I can share or post the YouTube video I uploaded? This demonstrates the problem far better than I can describe.

Just post the URL of the video as a link.

Check the security and freedom from corrosion of all earths. The most notorious is the one between the battery negative post and the gearbox casing.

You could try a spray of switch cleaning fluid in all the sockets of the BSI (cabin fusebox) and underbonnet fuse box.

It sounds to me like a relay on the BSI is trying to lock in to get the system up, but there's not enough operating current to hold it on, hence the chattering. If that's right, the question is what is causing the lack of current, and my guess is either a bad contact in the ignition switch or the wiring to the BSI, or the BSI processor itself. BSI faults are fairly rare, so the plugs and sockets should be checked first.

I appreciate the replies and suggestions. Sadly my knowledge of cars is so limited as to not know what plugs or sockets need to be checked, i.e. where they even are.

Are you sure you mean the first position (Acc)?
Second is Ignition on.
Third is Start engine.

Put it to ignition and check/measure voltage in cigarette lighter socket
