Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? I have a 1.6 206cc allure and every now and then I feel the pedal leave my foot and rev high for a while before coming back up. This is quite scary and so far when it has happened i have had nothing in front of me so it has not been a huge problem but worried I may not be so lucky one day. Any help/suggestions? As it is so intermittent not sure if garage will find a fault?

Cheers Mark

Welcome to the forum Mark. Sorry, never heard of that one! Is the mat causing it?

Thanks for reply. No it's definitely not the mats. The first time it happened I was in a car park and it went when I started the car up. I checked the mats etc then and when i was checkng them saw pedal bounce up on it's own.

No, haven't got cruise control either. Mentioned it to a friend and she seemed to think there had been something on Watchdog about it but Peugeot don't seem to know anything about that but don't suppose they woudl admit to it if they did!

What year is the car? Has it got an accelerator cable from the pedal, or is it one of the fly by wire type?

This happened to me once...not my Peugeot, I was driving a Fiesta. Very scary experience especially as I was approaching a roundabout junction at the time. The only way I could stop the car was to switch the ignition off :yikes: When I lifted the bonnet I found a cable had got caught and had the effect of accelerating.

Hello again

It is a 53 plate. Have looked for a cable but cannot find one. Don't know much about cars and what 'fly by wire' means? Thanks again for your help.

You may find this thread useful. Read it and you should get the picture re: fly by wire.

If you have "fly by wire" instead of an accelerator cable then at the base of your accelerator pedal you will have a little "box" type electronic device. If they go faulty they can be replaced. I do not know the cost but I am not an advocate of replacing parts blindly. You could get your local service agent to help you diagnose any fault.
If you have a cable, then, as Thar says above, I would check the run of it to see that it is not fouling anything which might pull on it.

Thank you very much - you have been very helpful - I will look into this with local garage - it makes it easier to be able to go armed with a bit more information.

Thanks again for your help it is very much appreciated.:)

We had a similar problem with the other car we have which is an automatic - the accelerator pedal went down on its own a couple of times whillst moving and then at traffic lights, got completely stuck and we had to turn off at ignition otherwise it would have probably shot off. Looking in the engine, the pedal cable had got caught up on some airflow tubing, freeing it up stopped the problem and it hasn't happened since - here's hoping!!
