hi guys and girls,

im a newb on here and after some info please. My missis owns a 206cc 1.6 2002 plate, its on 89000 miles, she bought it around this time last year and has been faultless in this time, but she has been complaing of it being slugish and lack of power.
So i took it out for a spin and could see what she means, there is no power until say 2500-3000rpm and is a rite tw*t to pull away.
it goes from no power to lots in a split second, i drove it when she first had, infact, i done 1000miles in it and never had this problem, and from what i can remember the power was very smooth,
Its just had an oil and filter change, and have just orderd a k&n filter and some new ngk plugs too see if that helps,
whats the experts thought, cheers

Personally I wouldn't swap the air filter for a non-standard one, I'd make sure its got a clean element in it. I'd get the exhaust repaired properly so that it can breathe as it should. That'll let any sensors do their job properly and instruct the ecu on fuelling, timing etc. I've heard that the correct Bosch plugs are best too. Is it misfiring? If so it could be the coilpack. Do a search on the forum for relevant posts on spark plugs and coilpacks. If replacing coilpack, replace the spark plugs at the same time.
By the way, it won't necessarily affect the performance but, bearing in mind its mileage, has the cambelt been renewed yet?

hi, thanks for the reply, the k&n is a standard replacement part so will fit in the air box and isnt one of these boy racer ones, also, iv already ordered the plugs to and prefer ngk to bosch. just a personal pref, as for the missfire, its not missfiring at all, just bogs down real bad whether the engine is cold or hot,
I dont think the cam belt has been touched neither to be honest, also not sure when its due, but think i heard something around the 96,000 mark but correct me if im wrong, as i no that a cam belt isnt something to ignore.
and just to top it off, iv just checked the av mpg and reeds 31mpg, and thats 95% town driving, hope this helps.
thanks once again,

steve

Hi Steve,
Hopefully the plugs and filter will make some difference. I don't suppose 31 mpg is too bad for round town. We average 42 but that's mostly rural, and, at my age, gentle driving. I'd still get the exhaust sorted.
The Autodata book says every 80k for the belt. My Peugeot owners manual doesn't specify a mileage as I recall. I've known them last quite a while longer than that though. At least you're aware. Some folk don't even know they've got a timing belt.
Regards, Ron

I was just going to say, had the same problem and only had mine for a week. The exhaust was held together with putty which teh garage relaced for free with a shiney new one and it now pulls lovely BUT, oh hell, glad you are all OK. Sad about the car - as a newbie, I'd be gutted!

Nice to know the exhaust gasket sorted the poor running. That info may help others.

Sorry about the crash though. Sounds as if injury claims will be appropriate, as well as the claim for the car write-off.
