'Passenger Airbag Deactivated'

Post by Puglet »

I have had the following intermittent fault appearing on my Pug 206cc, on start up there is a grating noise as the speedo needle flicks up and back to zero briefly, then the driver air bad light comes on, followed by an audible chime, followed by the passenger airbag symbol, these both stay on, and on the dash comes the words 'Passenger Airbag Deactivated' followed by 'Airbag Fault' and the doors lock me in. If I turn ignition off and on again all this disappears. I have been to and fro to a Peugeot dealership and 4 dignostic test late, a new ECU, switch, underseat wiring loom and £400 pounds later - the problem is still happening! I have reported Peugeot dealership to Trading Standards now as each time I turn up begging them to rectify this annoying fault, they want to charge me to fit something else! I have suggested they check the following - alternator, battery, seatbelt pretentsioners - at last visit they told me my battery was running a very low voltage and would cost 120 squid to fit....I kicked off and they have agreed to supply and fit FOC this weekend, I am at a loss now as if this doesnt fix this what will??? What should I do next ?? I have not asked them to check the Com2000 yet...so I guess this will be next on the list....I am determined to get to the bottom of it.

Welcome to the forum.

You tell us nothing about your 206cc - age, mileage, service history, model.

I would say it is the battery. I get the airbag fault and the other symptoms when my battery runs low. I changed it recently with a new one from Peugeot which cost me about £50. Keep us posted with how you get on and welcome to the forum!

I would suspect the same as Thar, but I don't know how old your battery is. 6+ years old? then deffo the main suspect.

Puegeot 206cc Allure, 1.6 petrol, auto, 2004 reg. 6 years old. I have not had it from new, but I have all the original service history and can find no new battery fitted, so lets hope finally after tomorrow it may just need a new battery...Im keeping everything crossed!

Okay, update since visiting the Peugeot dealer again this morning, they fitted a new battery and so far, after starting her up a few times at intervals during the day, NO AIR BAG LIGHT fault ! !! YAY !
My only grievance now is could I take my claim to trading standards futher and ask Peugeot why they fitted all the other parts in the beginning when all it needed was a new battery ! Im 400 quid out of pocket all because they never tested the battery ! I have a good mind to take them to the cleaners.

As a start I'd just ask them for my £400 back as they failed to do a simple job properly.

If they refuse then you can decide whether or not to pursue matters through formal channels.

After all the diagnosis on a 6 year old car was really simple wasn't it? It should have been staring them in the face. It did us, and we're mere amateurs. We do it for love.
