For the 2.0 litre models, 8 years or 80,000 miles whichever comes soonest. So in your case, next year when the car is 8 years old.

Most mechanics would recommend replacing the water pump at the same time. If the water pump was to go soon after, all the same work would have to be undertaken again. So it makes sense to renew the water pump and coolant at the same time as the timing belt. Worth the extra £50 or so.

For the 1.6 litre petrol models, 10 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes soonest. So in your daughter's case Graeme, 2014 when the car is 10 years old, or sooner if it has done 100k.
