engine problem??

hi all,

i have a problem with my 206cc 02reg 1.6.
basically the past few weeks i have noticed if i try speed up the revs drag as if i have my clucth in slightly? know idea why its happening also the past few days a anti-pollution fault appers on the centre dash and and it has cut out a few times while driving? i will be taking it into garage to get these things checked but would like a heads up so i dont get ripped off and at least have a idea of whats wrong all help would be great and will answer question if needed to diagnose the problem.

It would help if you gave us some history about the car, e.g mileage, service history, by whom, any significant repairs, what fuel you use, where you buy it, etc.

oh ok.
its a petrol, brought 2nd handin 2004 52 plate one lady driver, 89905 milage, service at pug but last time was a garage but a well known and trusting garage. had new cam belt also had new master fuse and ecu in 2008 dur water damage, no crashes or majour bumps.

I would suspect that the clutch is at the end of its life Scott. You describe clutch slip on acceleration. A new clutch is the the cure for that.

I'm guessing that this may be sending conflicting signals to your car's ecu e.g. the engine speed does not correspond to the correct road speed. If the resultant fueling is incorrect there could lead be over-fueling leading to unburnt hydrocarbons being present in the exhaust which are being picked up by the lambda sensor and creating the anti-pollution fault signal on your dash.

Hopefully, if you have a reputable and trustworthy garage that has worked on your car they will not rip you off. However, a new clutch will not be cheap if it is that that is going.

Give the garage as much background information, describing the symptoms to them as best you can. That will help them in making the correct diagnosis.

thanks for the help, i have noticed my clutch was pretty high and was told it should be half way mine is high and hardly need to press it down to change gear.
will get this sorted asap.
