Engine shaking on 206cc, 03 reg. Help pls...

Post by future8512 »

Hi there, I have read a lot in this forum but I could not find a problem such as mine.
I have a Peugeot 206cc 03 reg. Every time when the engine is cold and I start it, it is shaking a lot and the car seams to lose power. When it worms up seems to be alright, or at least better than when cold.
Any ideals why the engine is shaking?
Has anyone else had this problem at all?
I'd appreciate your help and advise.
Thank you.

Hi and welcome.
It sounds as if your car has a miss fire. Have you any warning lights or messages on when it happens?
Fault is likely to be faulty coil pack or spark plugs. A proper code reader will help narrow it down.
Cheers Col.

1.6 or 2.0 litre? When was it last properly serviced? How many miles has it done? How long since last oil and filter change?

A quick search of the forum would tell you - "you are not alone".
My 2.0 '02 plate CC does exactly the same. I had the coil pack and plugs changed and it improved a lot but it still does it. It seems to be as if it was running on choke, (if you can remember that) it is when the mixture is enriched to aid starting, all done today by the cars ECU. After a minute or two it settles and runs fine. I have also noticed that mine can be a little top end noisy until it warms but that is down to the peugeot design and 2.0 tappets I suppose. :hmm:

The reason I asked about the engine size and oil change history.

Hi there,
Thank you for your responses.
There is not lights coming on the pannel at all.
The exaust was changed, spark plugs were checked and the coil was checked as well./
It has only got 50k on the clock and is 2.0l.
I really do not like it like that and I am thinking of selling it now.
I can not find the fault and it really drives me crazy.
If anyone has any suggestions please share :)
Thanks guys.

Answer my original questions please. When was it last properly serviced? How long since last oil and filter change? You only told me how many miles it has done. Has the oil and oil filter been changed in the last 12 months? What about the air filter?

Thank you, that helps with the diagnosis. I normally recommend an oil & filter change every 12 months so I would do that first and see if there is an improvement. Use the correct oil. The 2.0 engine can have an issue with its hydraulic tappets and regular oil changes can help with this. Changing the tappets for 1.8 ones seems to be the long term cure if the problem persists, but it is expensive.

Capncol's suggestion that it could be coil pack or spark plugs carries some credence. His recommendation about the use of a code reader makes sense. Make sure you using the correct Bosch spark plugs, as the 206cc doesn't seem to run so well with alternative plugs. Incorrect spark plugs have been known to spike brand new coil packs. However, take a look at the following thread too as on that occasion it turned out to be a leaking seal in the fuelling system:

Hi there,
Thank you very much. I changed the oil again and it seems to be better.
Unfortunately I got involved in an accident and the rear quarter panel got smashed.
Does anyone know if I can take it off and jut replace it?
Does it have to be cutt off to be removed?
Thank you so much for your help.
