Hiya, i'm new to the forum and have a big issue with the car starting its self?
A mechanic said there is a short in the ignition barrel and after "messing with it" fixed the problem, although i thought! It's happened since and won't start at all now.
Is the barrel sealed or can i strip it and look inside?
How much would a new/secondhand barrel cost, and thirdly is there a procces to go through with coding a new ignition key if i get a new barrel?
Any help would be greatfully appriciated.

Re: Self start????
Hi & welcome.
The fault won't be in the barrel itself as that's just a mechanism just like a padlock or front door lock. The barrel operates a rotary switch at the end of the barrel and the fault may be in that, so you wont need new key.
You haven't said anything about your car, so I've no idea if the switch is seperately available or part of an assembly.
The fault could also be in the wirng or starter motor itself.
