Could anyone point me in the right direction on how to reset whatever he reset, cause frankly I'm clueless with this stuff and my car is misfiring badly. Hopefully it just needs to dry off a little

Resetting ECU / Diagnostics
So basically earlier today I had to call the AA, I drove through a puddle and it short circuited something and my engine started misfiring. The guy who helped me attatched his diagnostics tool checked some stuff then simply came back and cleared it the fault codes from the car resetting the ECU or something. Which fixed all the problems (until i was nearly home) then it went again after he had left me, sods law...
Could anyone point me in the right direction on how to reset whatever he reset, cause frankly I'm clueless with this stuff and my car is misfiring badly. Hopefully it just needs to dry off a little
for any assistance, PUG power.......!

Re: Resetting ECU / Diagnostics
Assuming it's a 206cc, what's the age of the car and fuel type.
I'd leave it to dry out.
Was it a big puddle? It's just most of the electrics are in the top of the engine/engine bay .. although you could have swamped the battery as there is an air-intake pipe up to the battery box or the alternator which is down low to the back of the engine.

Re: Resetting ECU / Diagnostics
Ahh yes details:
2002 206 1.4 look (sorry just realised my mistake since i am on 206cc forums lol)
Anyway, he basically attached his diagnostic tool after checking all cables and plugs, he said he cleared the error code from the system and it literally worked perfect afterwards, for another 10 minutes anyway. Puddle was not deep but quite large in diameter and I was doing around 50 mph.
Cheers.

To reset fault codes, you will need a good EOBD reader, but it's pointless buying one unless you understand what it is telling you.Could anyone point me in the right direction on how to reset whatever he reset, cause frankly I'm clueless
You can only permanantly clear the faults if the cause has been rectified otherwise it will keep re-appearing.
Sometimes the symtoms of the fault will clear themselves (for instance) if a electrical connection got wet and subsequently dried out, but the fault code would still be stored.
I would seek a good independant garage if the problem remains.
Cheers Col.

Better still, put the details in your signature.
