206cc first car 18yo female HELP???

Post by Shani3maybee »

Hi 206cc owners!!

I was wondering if anyone has brought a cc at the age of 18..

I am 18 I just passed my test and I really want to buy a cc as I've seen some on gumtree/auto trader in my budget. £1500

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which insurers i could call for a decent quote under £2500 I want to buy the car next week and insure straight away

I am a female driver, would it help putting my mum down as additional?

Need some feed back ASAP!
I am also considering a 307...
Thanks

You could try sheilas wheels (www.sheilaswheels.com/) they specialise in lady drivers, make sure you get your insurance before December though as women's premiums are set to increase by about 1/3rd I believe.

Allow something in your budget for repairs if you are only paying £1500 for a 206cc. It is likely to be around 10 years old and the chances are it will need something doing to it. Even a cam-belt service will set you back several hundred pounds.

Careful with a 307, the heater matrix can be expensive to replace if that goes.

If it dose need a cambelt or almost any other work don't bother taking it to Peugeot, I almost fell about laughing last week when I rung them for a quote for:

1. A new cambelt fitted: £675
2. A new nearside drive shaft: £900!

I know the cambelt can be done for a lot less, around £350 seems to be the average amount, the drive shaft seems like a simple job and parts are around £50 so £900 is taking the p*ss.

By the way, this dealer was Fussell Wadman in Devizes, Wilshire.

Funnily enough, putting you mum on as a named driver will save you money. Try Tesco for insurance.

Hi I was 18 when I bought my 206cc in January :) I'm now 19. I'm with 'Bell' insurance which is part of the admiral etc group. My quote was £1000ish but I paid monthly until June then gave them the full whack. Been quoted £650 for my renewal which will be nicer!!!
My mum is a named driver which she loves cuz she loves my car too. (She's got a boring Zafira so likes the change!!)

However I paid £2,600 for my car and in the 9 months if owning her hsve spent around £800 in repairs..... Hopefully that won't put you off as thy are wonderful cars. You will probably get the odd jealous girl giving you looks though ;)

Let us know how you get on!!! Good luck :)
