Electronics go dead when trying to start up.

Post by smellyleopard »

Hi, 4 months ago I bought a 08/2003 Peugeot 206cc 1.6i 16v with 105k km on the clock.

I noticed after a month or two it had the electrical fault where the indicators would only work a few seconds before being turned off and the headlights coming on. This didn't bothered me too much even though it's potential dangerous.

One day after work I started it up, drove it past the gate and turned it off with the lights on and the key in the ignition. After 5 minutes I came back to drive it home but when I tried to start it back up it didnt start. Not only the car didn't start, the second I turn the key every electronic dies and the engine isn't even trying to start. We tried to start it while pushing it but it didnt do nothing. I left it in the underground parking garage. Next day I try to start it up and it worked first try.

Today my car is parked outside with the same problem, the moment you turn the key everything goes dead. When you stop turning the key the electrics go back up and the windshield wipers does one tour. The first time on the display it said something about electronic theft protection, today it says the car is in eco mode. The car was unlocked when I found it yesterday, I possibly forgot to lock it.

My question is if this is a dead battery, failed electronics or possibly due to water damage (there's been some minor water leaking in through the roof, nothing much). If it's a dead battery, how is that possible since I rarely use radio, open windows, turn on heating heating or open roof? Why isn't the ignition even trying to fire up the engine? And why did it work the next day the first time I had this problem?

Thanks for reading through this. :|

Sounds like a dead battery. The other culprit is a loose connection. From what you say, my monies on the battery.

Hi, jump started the battery with cables and indeed it was fixed. Not sure how the battery died, can't imagine I left anything on. I guess if it dies again, something must be wrong though.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Be careful jumpstarting as you can spike the ecu. Easier to put a new battery on.
