peugeot 206cc 2.0 battery symbol

Post by dusktilldawn »

car is as above ,bought it couple of weeks ago, serviced it as usual plugs filters oil etc, fixed oil leak, rocker cover and abs symbol gone after abs fixed, but frequently when car has stood overnight and you go to start battery sign stays on dash ,and aircon display, stays off, drive car for few hundred yards and aircon display reappears, had battery and alternator tested ,battery is now brand new as warranty was in the glove box,aux belt tensioner and idler was changed due to whining noise, but issue with display still here ,could this be alternator still :(

It could be. Leave it overnight and next morning measure battery voltage before starting car and while watching meter, get someone to start car and see if voltage jumps up straight away. Post results here with voltages measured.
Cheers Col.

I had a similar fault with the charging circuit following an alternator replacement after mine fried. Symptoms were the same and my garage could not trace the fault as all wiring was apparently intact, but the charging circuit was not functioning or if it did it was as you described. Finally narrowed down to the wire from the alternator to the fuse box, this tested fine for continuity but the module in the fuse box for the charging circuit was not receiving the correct signal to actuate apparently. They found another switched live in the fuse box and connected a fused link to the wire in the fuse box and lo and behold worked perfectly ever since.

I will also take a pic and post in here to show how they did it.

My battery did act up after the alternator went (the usual ABS and anti pollution messages) but was also replaced under warranty.

I know the explanation is not technically correct but hope this helps.

right thanks for expalanation above will check into this after easter, but I spoke to a garage today who suggested it could be the aircon compressor as its drawing to much at startup,,then theres a click aircon display appears and battery light goes out, does this sound reasonable or is he trying to sell me a 300 air con pump, when car is running with aircon display available and no battery light on dash im getting 14 volts+if you leave on idle when issues are present there is a click then voltage bumps up to 14 as above battery light goes off aircon appears...doing my head in

Pic as promised
Image

The red/white wire on the right is the Alternator feed, the wires go through a fused link as stated which is just showing on the left of the pic. the feed is an ignition switched live and does not interfere with any other electrical systems as all my issues went after it was fitted.
Solved all my charging issues, maybe test fitting a link then trying all checks again?
