Wing mirrors

Post by Amy-Louize »

Hey, I just bought a 206cc, year is 2002 and she is A 1.6

Because of my spectacularly crap parking space in work I really need to be able to fold the wing mirrors, does anybody know if they fold? I do not have a switch to fold them electrically and they seem quite stiff so I was afraid to manually force them in case I popped one off. Cheers

They are supposed to, but if they've never been exercised then they may be stiff to the point of risking damage.
I would advise spending a few quid on a can of WD40, squirting it around the pivot and then gently "wiggling it in".
Once you've got them moving properly then they're reasonably easy to keep lubricated - it's just that getting them to that point can be a bit scary.

thanks a mill, will give that a go, I'd rather I accidentally broke it off than one of my "lovely" colleagues clipped it off or worse if I clipped it off myself while I was parking (I park beside the smoking spot) - delivering a daily laugh for them all!

Lubricate them first as suggested. When I fold ours in I apply upward pressure at the same time which helps.

Once you've got them moving ok an occasional smear of clear silicon grease will keep them in good order.

You'll probably want some of that grease to keep your roof seals supple too. But be careful about doing it. The seal at the front is easy because you do that with the roof right down but be very careful if you stop the roof halfway to do other seals because you need to heed the cautionary notes in the handbook very carefully. Otherwise you'll end up with a very expensive bill from your Peugeot dealer to carry out a reset on your roof when you get it stuck!

Ahh this is interesting... I should have electric folding mirrors on mine but the previous owner must have damaged the passenger mirror as you can tell it has been repaired, but looks fine, but neither fold in when reversing the mirror adjustment button to the middle. On the odd occasion I have needed to fold the good drivers mirror it is mega stiff, so where would I need to squirt WD or put silicon... behind the mirror glass itself or take it apart? Thanks
