Noise from front of car and pulls to left when accelerating

Post by mud plugger »

Hello All,

Over the last few days there has been a noise coming from the front end of the car.(sort of droning sound) When I drove it yesterday as I went up a hill and started to accelerate it was pulling to the left hand side of the car and when I lifted off the car seemed to move back to the right - tried this several times and always the same - very strange! As i live in France can overtake without having to turn the steering wheel -

Has anyone had a similar or the same problem and can guide me in the right direction?

The tyres on the front of the car are of differing tread depths, would this cause the problem?

:D Thanks

It could be the tyres. Have you tried swapping the wheels over (left to right, right to left) or putting the rears on the front?

It could also be something worn. Droning sounds might indicate be a worn wheel bearing so when you accelerate it's pulling the wheels out of alignment.

Jack up the car and hold it at the top and bottom and rock the wheel in and out. See if you can detect any movement. Then hold at 3 and 9 o'clock and try the same, but don't mistake it for the steering rack moving. You might want someone to hold the steering wheel.

Also while the car is jacked up, try spinning the wheel with your finger tips lightly on the suspension strut/spring and you might be able to detect vibration.
