LPG Conversion

Hi,

I've suddenly found that I'm doing A LOT of miles each year in my 206cc (approx 32,000 miles) and at the moment I'm averaging 35MPG. Other than changing my car for a more economical car which wouldn't be fun I thought that an LPG conversion would be worth looking into. From what I can tell it would drop my yearly fuel costs from around £5500 to £3000 and a conversion costing £700-1000 depending on whom. Either-way it seems like a saving.

Normally with an LPG conversion they put a tank in the spare wheel well but as we know the 206cc doesn't have one. I've seen pictures of slimline tanks and stuff but wondered if anyone knew of a LPG conversion specialists who has done a 206cc so I can talk to them about details.

Any other opinions or thoughts welcome as I've not had LPG cars before, note that I've checked my local garages at home and at work and they do sell LPG along with a few en-route.

I can't see you having room for any sort of reasonable sized tank. LPG is about 10% less efficient than petrol so you will use more. You should also use a certified installer for your safety and peace of mind. Also check with your insurance as some will not cover LPG converted cars.
I think your estimate is a bit low too. I would expect it to be £1500 - £1700. A cheaper conversion may not be certified or may not be compatible with the electronic engine management of your car.

I'm still researching this idea but generally it seems costs for 4th gen installations have come down over the past year or two. There is certainly room in the boot for a tank but I don't know size/range restrictions yet.

I've now seems lots of installations done so I know it's possible but the weekend has limited who I can talk to.
