Another newbie!

Post by ChloeAllure53 »

Hi, I bought a 53 plate Allure yesterday in black. It's my daily drive and a lot fun as well I hope! Need a few bits and bobs as I own a classic Ford so I get obsessed about missing bits of plastic and everything matching LOL. I think these may be the classics of the future so I am hoping to save someone all the work I had to do! :)

So far, the car has been washed and spruced up. I have a bumper box of Autobrite goodies just arrived, so this weeked, it will be a serious clean and we'll take the alloys off and get them well cleaned up and everything waxed. Already Autoglymed the leather. I have replaced a dodgy wing mirror and fixed a broken vent. Shame about the roof problem I experienced yesterday. Thats given me something to work on I hadn't expected. (See other post).

Also, I have never had a car with Air Con before but I can't tell any difference between when its on or off. This strikes me as not normal, so I'll be delving through here to find out what makes the air con tick or not as the case may be.

Never used it before, but after recommendations I thought I;d give it a try. Read your cleaning post as well, nice one!

When you press the aircon button you should noticeably feel the air get icier.
If it doesn't, then it's possible that the system needs re-gassing. They run at very high pressures and can lose it over time.
Formula 1 Autocentre next to the McD's near Morrison's in Bulwell are reasonably good for that sort of thing.

Thanks for the post En. Definately not icy! Concerned now that it may not have been gassed for some time and may have leaks or damage. Thanks for the tip about Formula 1. Due to time constraints I need someone closer to work and I have found a garage which will test it for me tomorrow to see if its OK before they gas it. If its not, then I'll take it from there.

Whoo hoo! I now have fully functional air con! The system had shut itself down when the gas was low. The original 9 yr old filter was still place, had it replaced.
Looking forward to some cool motoring now.

Well actually, the last day of summer was the day I bought a convertible. The air con is just to defrost the window. Must be due for a good frosting soon? Summer is surely over?? lol
