please help someone - lots of electrical faults I think!!

Post by noonoo1956 »

Dont know if anyone can help here. I've just purchased a beautiful 206cc and I'm totally in love with it, but there are lots of faults.
1. The speedo doesn't work at all. I've taken it to a garage and they have replace a couple of sensors and even tried the speedo from another 206cc but that didn't work either. They put it on diagnostics but it's not picking up any faults at all.
2. Display is saying Airbag fault. Also saying passenger airbag disarmed, but I've checked and it isn't.
3. The roof doesn't work at all. It makes a single beep when I unclip the fasteners as it should, but when I pull the button to operate the roof it makes lots of beeps.
4. The digital display lights up fine, but there is no information given - mileage says ----, miles to fuel changes when I put fuel in but then doesn't change at all as I am driving. Miles since last fuel says ----, in fact everything says ---- since I cleared the information on the display.
I know it's a big ask, but any help at all would be extremely gratefully received.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

If the airbag light is on they should be able to find that or their diag tool is wrong for Pugs. Find a garage used to working with Peugeot/Citroen cars or take it back to where you bought it ... unless of course it was a private sale ...

You need that diag output before you start wasting money changing bits randomly.

Help by telling us year if car and area you live in as we can't recommend anyone we may already know.

Hi again, it's a 2002 1.6, and I live in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area.
I contacted local Peugeot dealer and they quoted me £106 just for diagnostics

How old is the battery?
A BSI restart may help (details in electrical forum)
Has the roof worked at all? Have you got the blind pulled across in the boot?
Cheers Col.

That sounds about right for a dealer .. an hours labour for litterally five minutes work.

Check on peugeotforums for the map of PP2000/PlanetPeugeot ** users ... most charge a fraction to check you codes ... ** that's the Peugeot diag system which you can run on a laptop but cables to connect to car cost a fair bit!!

The battery is pretty new.
The roof worked on the morning that I bought the car, I have been told.
I'll have a look at this BSI restart, whatever that is lol
Thanks for all your comments

Rule no 1 when buying a car ... never believe what the seller tells you

Rule 2 ... never assume that shiny new MOT means the car is road-worthy

Will PM you when I finish work. Live quite close to you....maybe able to recommend where you could get diagnostics done for a lot less than you were quoted.

I bought it from a dealer. I've phoned him today re roof and he has said that he will try and get it booked in for me at my nearest peugeot dealer to try and get roof fixed, as he is adamant that it was working and it doesn't look good on him. So if he does get the roof working at his cost maybe he is actually an honest car dealer. I hope so anyway

If you put your location in your profile you won't have to rely on us remembering it!
I have the PP2000 kit and can do diagnostics - I also have some experience of 206 CC's and am within a reasonable distance of Chesterfield. I do ask for a nominal fee to cover my time, but it won't break the bank! PM me for my number (or send me yours) and we can discuss it.

Hi enright,
For some reason I can't pm you - I don't know how!
Anyway, the dealer is paying for my car to go to peugeot dealer in sheffield for diagnostics on roof, and I'm asking them also to look at speedo and airbag fault while it's in there. Dealer says he will pay for diagnostics so I'll just have to wait and see what result of that is!
But just to make matters even worse now radio has stopped working tho CD player works, and the mfd (multi functional display) is not reading mileage, mpg or miles till fuel! I don't think this can get much worse at this moment in time.
So, depending on results on Wednesday I still might need a lot of help with my car if it's available. Would have to wait till end of the month tho as my finances are extremely low at the moment lol.
Thank you so much for your offer, I am grateful for it.
P.s. I've updated my profile so my location shows now. Thanks for the tip. As you can guess I'm really new and naive with all this lol.

Thanks enright for your pm - I can't reply to it privately unfortunately tho. Thanks so much for your offer. I may take you up on that later if that's ok with you if I need to. It's gone to my local peugeot dealer now, so am waiting for the results tomorrow and then see what the buyer offers to do to help me with this. Can I keep your number please if it's needed, and do you do repairs on 206cc's? I'll post up the results from peugeot when I get them to let anyone know who might be. Interested or who could have similar faults - just in case it helps anyone.
And again, thanks to all who have replied. I didn't realise there were so many helpful souls out there x

Yes that's fine.
I can't guarantee that I'd be able to sort it, but am an enthusiastic tinkerer and fault diagnosis is half the battle anyway - if the diagnosis is correct then it's often just a case of replacing what the garage suggests. I certainly know my way round 206 CCs.
That's what these forums are all about!
