Rear damper dust cover

Post by danielz000 »

Hi

Is it possible to purchase rear damper dust covers?

The brittle plastic they're made of has cracked away on my 206cc.

Is this likely to be a MOT failure?

I have a picture but can't add it :(

Cheers

Dan

You could use a universal steering rack gaiter.

Thanks Capncol. I'll take a look. Any idea what tools would be required to swap the gaiter?

Basic hand tools. Remove shock and soak rack gaiter in hot water to soften one it's cut to size

Remembering what our rear shock mounting bolts looked like ... include in that list of tool plenty of PlusGas release fluid!! 8-}

Cheers Guys! I'll give it a go :)

Edit: Is there a certain torque setting I will need for tightening the bolts? Also, once removed will I be able to compress the damper to get it back on again without special tools?

Lower mounting bolt: 150Nm or 111 lb/ft
Upper mounting bolt: 70 Nm or 52 lb/ft

You should be able to compress it by hand ... good for the pectoral muscles! :-)

Haynes manual also states:

Prior to fitting, prime shock by pumping it fully several times then Multi Purpose grease on both mounting bolts.

It needs the trailing arm to be jacked up/down so the mounting bolt centres are 317.5mm apart before you torque them up ...

Thanks for clarifying that Leegsi!

Gazza82, thanks for your offer/message mate, that would be great if you get a chance.

Unfortunately I can't reply to you directly as I don't think I've made enough posts to use the PM system yet...

Cheers,

Dan
