Thinking of changing the 206cc Allure

My wife has had her Moonstone Blue 2005 1.6 Allure for nearly 10 years and fancies a change. The car has had regular servicing by me and has been used gently and with respect. 33k miles on the clock, original tyres (except one - puncture) all legal, regular oil and filter changes. Has passed MOT everytime although has advisories re brake discs (rust after winter - the MOT falls due in spring), exhaust back box rusting (last two years but not blowing). The cambelt has not been renewed yet.

Everything works perfectly and it has a space saver spare plus a genuine Wind Deflector.

Got offered £1,100 in part exchange (without the garage seeing it) for a VW Polo but surely it's got to be worth more than that.

What do people think?

I've had mine for just over 2 years and love it more than the missus....well maybe the same, but
if one had to go.....
You know the car inside out, running costs, parts, problems,etc..
Why change ?

Worth a lot more. Sell it privately. I bought my 05 with 32000 - a well-repaired write-off - just the rear wing and bumper damaged, for £2200. Plus you should be able to bargain the dealer down if you don't trade it in.

1.4 Polo Match Edition ordered, so all the bells and whistles - not TOO bland Gazza. Collecting it next Wednesday 21st.

We've only been averaging 2,000 miles a year in the 206cc for the past 3 years. Only comes out on sunny days and is mollycoddled in our garage the rest of the time. 4 advisories last MOT 1) OSR brake pad wearing low, 2) NSR tyre wear approaching tread wear indicators, 3) Rear silencer skin corroding, 4) OSF and OSR brake discs inner surfaces corroding.

The previous year said similar but not as much. Not bad for a 10 year old original car! Still runs like a dream. Goes against the grain a bit to sell it but Pat is 65 next birthday and will be happier with a VW hatchback (or so she says!).

I'll probably just mention it on Facebook as my friends and relatives know the car well and have been hankering after it.

I hope we are still going to hear from you.............I joined in August 2013, and although I've not
had too many problems with mine, I've enjoyed the forum, reading the posts.....some serious some
not....going to hold on to my 206cc for a while, but eventually want a Mercedes SLK as a retirement
present, only problem is I've a few years to go....hope your missus enjoys the new car, and more
importantly lets you have a go in it Ron !!!!!

I shall be driving it back from Sunderland next Wednesday. Pat hasn't driven for several years. Says there are too many blind spots in the 206cc with the roof up. I'm hoping that after a few drives in the Polo on quiet roads she will regain her confidence. We might remain a 3 car family for a while but no car likes to to be left unused - it doesn't do them any good.

Very glamorous girls.....if only I was 10 years younger !!!! Still be too old.
On holiday next week...service on Monday, then off to Weymouth, looking forward to the drive down
and hopefully get the roof lowered for some fresh air.

The Dixie Chicks are the real ones - I've been a fan of theirs for many years. My daughters have bought me tickets to see them again on tour at the NEC at the end of April next year. Saw them there when they toured the UK last time.

Our 206cc has sold already. The cheapest one on Autotrader of the same year, spec and mileage was £3,000 and my son's mother-in-law wanted it so we let her have it at a discount - £2,500. She's over the moon. So my grandchildren will still get to ride in it with their Nannie doing the driving! I'll probably still end up servicing it too.

Picked it up from Sunderland last week Mark. Averaged 52mpg on the 200 mile journey back home. It drives just fine. Pat likes it and I hope to get her behind the wheel of it in the coming days.

It has a mixture of new/nearly new Chinese tyres on it but it drives just fine. The cruise control makes for relaxing motorway driving and Pat likes the reversing sensors and Bluetooth phone connection. It is small but roomy enough in the front and will hold 3 at a push in the rear. More rear leg room than the 206cc of course but still not generous with tall people in the front.

I was concerned that it had been on the variable servicing regime but was assured that this was in accordance with dealership recommendations. The first service had been carried out at 30,000 miles (yikes!), and the dealer has just serviced it again before we took it away. It comes with a 12 month warranty from VW. We paid £8,100.

It will get more frequent oil and filter changes with us and we'll see how we get on with it. The naturally aspirated 1.4 petrol engine seems rather tame after my 2.0 TDI estate and has less poke than the 110 bhp 1.6 16v Peugeot too. It is necessary to change down to 4th, or even 3rd on steeper hills but we'll get used to that. It will lead a pampered life : the 206cc has done only 32k in 10 years and didn't come out much when it rained.
