Swoping Battery

Post by iooiuk »

OK. So the battery seems to be getting very slugish when cranking over. Still fires OK, but seems to be making hard work of turning over.
Engine running gives a good 14V from tickover upwards.
But once off the volts do drop quickly. So I figure that the battery has reached the end of its life.

Now I have read the bit about procedure for changing the battery, but wonder about the radio. As I do not have the code.

So does a simple battery swop need the radio code, or will radio work Ok afterwards.
Over to you who may have done this

No, the radio is coded to the car in non-volatile memory, so that will not be lost when you change the battery. Only the date, time, and display options will be reset.

That depends on the age of the car .. 2001 and before (pre-mux), radio code IS needed. So if the radio has it's own display screen it WILL need a code. If the radio only shows in the top dash display, it will reconnect.

Just wanted to make sure that IanL's post wasn't misinterpreted by anyone else and the next post was "Where do I get my radio code?" :-)

We moved to a Sony HU on the CC as the original, and a replacement, Peugeot unit refused to give the CDs back .. I was surprised how easy it was. We bought the radio from Halfrauds but not the radio adapter as they wanted rip-off prices ... so daughter now has CD, USB or Aux sockets .. just wish she would learn to turn volume down before I get in and start it .. bleeding ear drums!!! (Gets that from the wife who does same!)

Thanks Guys.
Yep I have a 2004 1.6.
Radio works fine and does what I need. I have a Garmin nuvicam which also gives me bluetooth for phone calls.

So just now need to source a battery.

OK Battery changed with no issues :excite:

Ended up @ Halfords with a Yuasa 12V Silver Battery HSB013 Seems this is for the 2000 and a 012 is for the 1600. But 012 was not in stock and the 013 is the same size as what came out

Engine off for a couple of mins before disconnecting.
Neg 1st.
Battery out and swop over.
Neg 1st on connection.
Left a couple of mins and then side lights on and restart.
Had to reset date, time etc. But it did remember all other stats such as mpg :)
Radio was a pain having to reset all the stations, but at least it worked straight away without the code (as advised  )
Did have to leave daughter in store as security while I checked the match size wise :rotfl:

Negative LAST going back I hope ... Earth is always last ...

Why? If you managed to touch the spanner on the positive terminal to the bodywork you get a big flash, loud bang, metal missing from spanner and bodywork and nowadays fried electrics. Seen it happen ... My mate jumped about 30 feet!!

Halfords are notorious for selling wrong sized batteries for CCs.

Which is why I NEVER have a spanner in my hand when replacing Positive battery connections.
