Checked the lights today on the new wee car, as when bringing it home the offside indicator double flashed with a fault.
On looking, the indicator on the rear flashes alternately with the reverse bulb, both are dimmer than standard. No rear sidelights either. Managed to get those working after tinkering with the bulbs, and no brakelights at all! When locking the car the brake light in the cluster and the middle one (in the bootlid) flash instead of the indicators too.
I know I need to at least fit new bulbs, clean up the contacts and try to check the wiring to suss out the mixed flashing, but what about the lack of brake lights? Any pointers on that one?
Cheers

Re: No brake lights?
Sounds like a bad earth. Check all the earth connections and also connectors onto tailight units. If that doesn't sort it, check brake light switch. Also make sure the bulbs are the correct type.
Cheers Col.

Thanks Col.
New bulbs tomorrow I think anyway, and I'll try to have a look at the earth connection.

Re: No brake lights?
Ok, so had a quick look at this today. Turns out the earth terminal of the light panel on both sides was broken/corroded away. I bridged the gap with a piece of wire to test, and the lights seem to be much better. I'll need to get it mended properly (or replace the bulb holders?) for a more permanent solution.
However, the brake lights still don't work. Can't decide if this is due to the temp repair, or another issue? I think I'll maybe need to check the brake switch - would that be a common problem?
Thanks.

Its placed conveniently right behind the glove box, if you look up you will see it at the back, easy to get to

Usually pops out of the holder rather than the plug falling out, good find
