Re: Cam belt frequency
I bought a 33,000 miler, and decided that, as it had no history and was built in 2005, it was due. I also decided to get the water pump and tensioner done at the same time.
Although the car was going well, it turned out the water pump was nearly seized. I assume that, had it seized, the belt would have failed.
The moral of the story - do it now.

Re: Cam belt frequency
I bought my 206cc nearly 3 years ago, and as there was no service history decided to have cam belt
and water pump changed.
At the time the car had done approx. 63,000. 13 years old.
Garage said removed cam belt would have been good for a while, but better safe than sorry.
The work was carried out by a local garage not a dealer.
I paid approx. £240.
I think Peugeot quote 10 years or 70,000, which I think is wishful thinking.
Local Peugeot dealer (Bristol) quoted £450.
The belt may have been changed, but without any service history it's not worth the risk.

It's do-able if you don't have hands like Guy the Gorilla .. even then I lost some skin and blood ..
It actually took longer to get all the covers off and access (Engine Mount has to come off) .. and would have been longer had they fitted all the bolts before! ... Then I used three bolts to time in the crank and cam gears .. you can get proper timing pins but this was recommended to me by a Pug specialist! (I wanted to borrow his kit and he didn't have one!)
In the end it was a few hours for me, but I did wait for the specialist to pop by to confirm I'd done it right .. I reckon 3-4 hours now.
Put a new water pump in too ...

Cam belt frequency
Just changed mine at 65,900 miles and it was on its last legs, if it had snapped I would have been very disappointed!
Plenty of worry free motoring now me thinks!!!
