Indicator problem

Post by martyrox »

My 2003 1.6 has recently developed an intermittent indicator fault. Occasionally they cut out whilst in use, either left or right, when cornering or just in a queue of traffic, if I apply pressure to the stalk they will work (but only if under constant pressure) Other times they perform as they should. Is there a quick fix or do I need to get a new squib/slip ring? I'll have to get a garage to do the work, so would a used unit be OK at about £40 or a new part at considerably more? Any suggestions would be very helpful.
I had similar problems with a Citroen C3 and it cost me about £350!

It's a well known problem with the comm 2000 unit. Search on here for more details, and I think you will also find a link to someone who repairs them.
I personally wouldn't fit second hand (especially as you are paying the labour) It may be as bad as the one you are replacing, or not last long.
Cheers Col.

Thanks Col,
Sound advice about used parts, I'll try to get it repaired. I wasn't aware it was such a common problem - I thought it was just the gods having a laugh at my expense!
