A bit more info would help ...JonTheHorrible wrote:Same here. I wish you'd got a response!
- Car type and age/year (important as the radio changes from pre-mux to multiplex). If you aren't sure is the remote stalk on the steering column long and thin or squat and flattish?
- Original OEM radio (Clarion or Blaupunkt) or off-the-shelf replacement (if latter it will never talk to the MFD)?
- Radio display in radio unit or uses MFD to display station, etc?
All MFDs have 3 or 4 bulbs depending on type (they are NOT interchangable as they are match the the cars wiring system!). If the display dims then one or more bulbs will have failed and need to be swapped out. They are capless 1.2w push-fits you can get off fleabay.
If they all go at once it is very likely the connector between the two circuit boards has failed due to dry solder joints. There used to be a guide on 206info.co.uk on how to fix but this was lost when the site crashed (and it was then they discovered the site backup wasn't working!).
But basically you can carefully take the MFD case apart and lift out the boards. The pins connecting one to the other have probably come loose so a careful dab with a soldering iron will reconnect them. Rejoin the boards and put the case back. Reconnect the MFD to the car.
If the radio has it's own display (ie the older pre-mux unit) then it's had it. It's a build-in LCD and unlikely to be fixable.
I've got a spare MFD in the garage somewhere. If I get a chance next week I'll try and get some photos and we can put a "how-to" together.

Thanks for your replies guys, apologies I had email notifications turned off. I got a new MFD. Also I have changed out the radio now to a Sony one.
