I will have to decline to comment on this - working for a rival oil company .

But remember for those of us in the Edinburgh /Grangemouth areas , that a certain green oil company sell a sulfur-free ulp and diesel product - which is a whole lot better for the environment .

skippy skippy skippy what can i say

BP as you say (not by name) have their refinery at grangemouth but insist on selling petrol at often the dearest or equally dearest in this area out of tesco / jet / shell / texaco / safeway. BP have never once lead the way with a price cut - always last to catch up.

That's my bit on BP

mvoong,
I'd be filling up all the time with Optimax if it was as cheap here as it is in Scotland. Nearest place to me sells it for 79.9p per litre. Just another example of the North/South divide !.

aren't you thinking of super unleaded optimax ??? as that usually carries a 6-8p premium over normal unleaded. even although the oil comes from the north sea - petrol is often cheaper in england - but what's new there !

Derek,
Thats what OPtimax is super unleaded ?. mvoong stated that it cost 71 p ish up in Scotland unless he is confusing ordinary Shell unleaded with Optimax then thats dead cheap compared to down south !. Shell Optimax is manufactured exclusively at the Shell refinery at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire so if it is cheaper up in Scotland its just another indication of "Southerners " getting ripped off !. Why is it cheaper when they have to ship it back up to Scotland approx the same distance they ship it down south?

Rgds

76.9 is the cheapest I have found it, and I'm currently using around 90 litres a week

It was on the A120 at Marks Tey, but it's gone up to 77.9 now (NUL has gone from 72.9 to 73.9). NUL is being sold on the two stations on the A12 at Ardleigh (one on each carriageway) at 72.7, so perhaps they're selling Optimax for 76.9?

I also found a Shell station in Ipswich selling NUL at 71.9, but I didn't go in so didn't find out the Optimax price.

I would be nice if they put the Optimax price on the big roadside signs, like they do with NUL, LRP and diesel

Derek
It wasn't a very well thought out comment was it ?
But at the end of the day - the customer choses where they want to buy - at least I made it clear from the start that I had an interest .

I only run now using optimax for the pennies per tank difference I found that I got the same pence per mile and better performance to boot with a far smoother pick up. I tested this over 2000 miles for normal unleaded and also optimax, I mainly do motorway driving but the improvement was noticable. (Living near a Shell petrol station did also help!)
But I would recommend this to everyone.

i filled up with optimax coming home from work on sunday evening. have done about 120 miles since about half and half of high speed motorway driving (late leaving again )and around/accross town driving and have averaged 29.4mph - normal is 31.4mph constant over 5700 miles.

don't really notice any "real" performance difference and not sure if it's worth paying 77.9 for optimax against 71.7 for nul for what i'm getting.

Of course unless the tank is completely empty when you fill up, you'll now be running an Optimax/NUL hybrid. Give it a few tanks and then decide.

carl,

there is very very little nul in the tank. i managed to drive all the way from work (24 miles) with the warning light on so i could go to a shell PFS that sold optimax.

let's say that on the way home i found that if there is less than 20 miles in the tank then the display on the trip computer does not register
