Hello, Audi Man here with my first post. Nice looking board, especially in the pug orange colour!

Just back from a test drive in the 206CC, or rather my gf & I are. (It's going to be her car). She is smitten by the cabrio and is ready to buy. Some questions for the board:

1. Are the roof issues sorted now? The dealer admitted problems with early models but said it was all fixed.

2. Are the reports of noise and scuttle shake I read really that bad or just comments by regular car drivers trying their first cabrio?

3. UK prices, the dealer said he would talk cash discounts wen we wanted to order, unheard of a year ago. If the main dealers are prepared to move on price, does this negate the price advantage of importing? We are experienced importers, but my gf wants the car *now* or just about prepared to wait the 6 weeks or so for one in her spec to come through.

4. Options for the 2.0. Decided on the larger engine and leather, any other options, apart from the wind shield that are a "must have"?

Thanks for your time!

Hiya Colin!
1. Are the roof issues sorted now?
I think so, although there are some lemons out there. But if you buy any car, you're taking your wallet in your hands. My last car was a dog (Megane!) but my CC is BEAUTIFUL

2. Are the reports of noise and scuttle shake I read really that bad
Hmmm, they are there but not BAAAAD. And anyway, when I'm cruising with the roof down, nothing bothers me

3. UK prices, the dealer said he would talk cash discounts
Blimey! They've changed their tune  I imported mine and saved nearly 3k. Made the difference between getting one - and NOT. But you're right, I had to take what was on offer, but that was 6 months ago. I used Motorpoint in Derby (v happy with them, but others aren't - luck of the draw I guess) and Trade Sales in Slough had loads on the forecourt recently. Do you want me to check tomorrow? I work near there

4. Options for the 2.0. Decided on the larger engine and leather, any other options, apart from the wind shield that are a "must have"?
Nope! You've gottem all

just pay with your credit card and then if you do have problems your credit card company will help fight any battles.

The only real concern is water leaks. Most cars dont leak, a few do and it can be a real pain.

Buy it and enjoy it - this is from the guy who had 3 lemons.

Thanks for the replies so far. Pauline, I'll call Trade Sales next week and see what they have in stock then. GF just finalising things in her head before she commits! I'm a spur of the moment person, but she needs a good lateral think about this before going somewhere as certain as a dealer with one in stock!

Sadly my cc limit is less than £17k, so unable to pay for the car with a card!

I'm sure they'd charge you a surcharge for putting it on your credit card anyway.

Anyone here bought a car on credit card? And did they charge you extra for it? Sounds like a great way to get reward points if you can scam it!

They can not charge you anymore than the RRP + onroad cost.

They can. Credit card companies charge a usage cost for each time a company takes payment by credit card (2.5%?) Doesn't matter so much on your groceries but if you're buying a £17,000 car, the dealer would have additional costs of £400. I certainly know people who've been charged credit card commission for putting cars on their credit cards.

Rachel, I will check with my dealer 2morrow.

BTW. Need a big fat credit card limit here to buy a CC using a personal credit card. Cost for CC (on-road included with full insurance) $40K - $50K

Yeah I'd be interested to know. The surcharge to the vendors in Oz vary according to the card type - I think it's somewhere around 5-7% for Mastercard and Visa (don't quote me) but higher for Diners and AmEx, like over 10%.

I know when you buy air tickets from some travel agents it costs more with a credit card, but I don't know of anyone else that charges differently for credit.

Last time I bought a car (the TX5 Trung .) I just assumed dealers wouldn't accept it because of this. If they did let you, I would think you could get your loan/finance paid into your credit card account and give them the proof, so that your credit limit wouldn't come into it.

as most have said a dealer is unlikely to allow you to pay for a car by credit card without charging more.

when i bought my CC i paid a £4000 deposit with visa without paying extra but only because it was part of an agreement. a month before delivery i paid a further £5400 but made an additional payment of 3% to cover the dealers credit card commission costs.

on the £5400 i paid £162 extra but still made £108 from the peugeot points plus the £200 i originally made on the £4000 deposit.

they would allow you to pay the whole lot on switch as the rates are much lower. this is also the reason why costco and some discount food retailers only accept debit and not credit cards.

Switch is a debit card (i.e. money is deducted from your bank account immediately, or after a few days). Another one is Delta.

Visa and Mastercard are credit cards (you get a bill at the end of the month).
