Derek, I know how you feel.

I coped a virus 4 weeks ago (also on my laptop). I sold it straight away as I don't have facility for a CD Burner. I bought a desktop (with CD-RW drive) and do a weekly backup of all data on CD-RW disks.

Very good advice from Trung there (I think I've said it before too). Even alternate between two CDRWs in case you want to go back to a previous version of something or you lose one.

Derek have you got good anti-virus software like Norton Anti-Vurus?

If not, nows the time, its cheap at the price if you have these sort of problems.

PS. Sorry to hear about all your work you lost

Robbie.

robbie,

it's a hardware fault(s) and not virus and i already have norton so thats wouldn't have made a difference

but thanks for the advice anyway

anyway - laptop that was ok 2 nights ago is now buggered again (was back to swquare 1 the following day unless i get anywhere when i go home and try again.

trung,

totally agree with what you say. as i use it a bit for work i don't really want a pc so will probably get a new laptop with cdrw.

Hmm Derek, if your laptop machine is a Packard Bell, isn't that french? If so, its probably a bit temprimental, try bashing it around a bit

Joking if SpeedBoy is reading
