It seems the mirrors may fold back if you hit something going forwards, but not backwards, even if it's something flimsy. Our Volvo mirrors fold both ways. Design fault or extra pocket money for Peugeot and dealers?

While I was reversing at 1 mph last week my door mirror caught an empty plastic dustbin and the assembly shattered into 6 pieces. Have had to have entire mirror with adjustment motors, heated glass etc replaced at a total cost of £125.35 inc VAT.

I thought the folding mirrors just folded when the engine stopped - I was going along at the time, albeit slowly backwards, and I was using the mirror to see where I was going (not very effectively apparently)
so couldn't have had it folded.
I think it ought to be possible just to replace the bracket without all the complex innards, or the mirror ought to fold forwards or backwards if necessary when it hits something
