He wants to buy my CC one for my birthday (and obviously can't afford the exhaust!) but...

K&N wanted 200 quid

Pauline. I expect the K&N is one of the new types with the heat shield (keeps the air colder, something to do with pressure, basically cold air is best for mixing with petrol, so they say).

Pipercross are one of the big boys in the performance filter world, i think they are huge in the states. I have a pipercross on my 1.6 and would highly recomend it.

I did read somewhere on here or on simons site about induction kits not being worth it for the 2.0. Actually i'm sure it was simons site.

I have the K@N pannel filter, cost about Â£35 approx.

If you look on Simons Web site you will see induction filters (the more expensive ones) do not have a warrented benefit against cost as due to the engine layout there are not many places to suck cold air in by.

The panel filter just fits in the box where the old filter sits (5 min job to replace).

The benfits seem to be in around the 3-4 brake horse bracket, you will not really notice it in direct performance but there car definatly picks up better and seems to rev more freely (sp?).

I would definatly recommend the pannel filter for Â£35 but imo would not bother with the induction kits.

On another note if the car is still under warranty and should anything happen (engine blow up)it would be a 2min job to put the old filter back in, just incase Peugeot blamed it on the filter or the weather or anything else they can do

I have been toying with the idea for a while now and all sites have recommended a new filter rather than the induction kit. Unless you can get enough cold air into the the induction kit. Might be best to have a go yourself with piping and clips. Bit of a DIY air cold feed. Or watch Blue Peter and see if they are showing you how to make a cold air feed.

Oh no! I've gone for a Green induction kit, with a big hole in the front to let air in (not the cheapest, the next one up - does that help?!!!).

Husband says the old airbox comes off and I'll have plenty of room.

But you've all made me doubt him!

The standard air box just lifts out complete, well once you've disconnected the main pipe! Then theres loads of room, its also nice and easy to slide back in if you want. (time to check out who has the filthy mind)

I intent to slot mine back in when it goes in for servicing.
I dont want to give them a chance to say 'void warranty!'

Its bound to be an improvemnt, enjoy!

listen to the boy racer. thats me. airfilters affect different cars in different ways. eg, zetec engines run hot so they aint much good for these engines. i woulnt buy the k&n. go for the piperx viper, costs about 200 quid but will be well worth it. should see a 2.0 cc to over 150bhp.

Zetec

Is the "150 BHP" your estimation or have you seen rolling road dyno figures for the 206CC. This is a 12+ bhp gain for an air filter in a 206!!

I have added both panel and induction filter on different cars in the past unless you can find a good source of cold air then induction filters can actually reduce bhp.

On the Pug Sport web site there is a dyno test of a range of filters for the 206 which the K&N Panel filter shows a gain of 4bhp but the piper X induction shows a drop in BHP of 2.

Is the "viper" model different to the one tested here?

On the same web site there is a link to an ITG filter which is over Â£300 which is a fully enclosed induction air filter and this gives a gain of 6bhp

Results

K&N air filter Â£35 = 4BHP
ITG induction Â£330 = 6Bhp

So that works out a Â£150 per additional brake horse for the ITG model.

So " (IMO)in my opinion" i would not dismiss the K@N filter so quickly and as far as value for money this seems a much better option.......just my opinion

If you have seen rolling road figures for the 12bhp gain somewhere please point out the site as Im sure a lot of people here would be very interested including me.

the viper model claims it can produce an extra 10-15 bhp on all cars. but like i said it will depend on how teh engine works, i dont know much about the 206 cc engines.

well you would get a better response from it than the zetec models would (i think). if u want a fast fiesta why didnt u buy a zetec-s?
