Standard Alarm

Because here in Greece the car comes with an alarm as an option I fitted a laserline (trademark that is) one. I am satisfied with it and because i was present on the installation it didn't fit very difficult for someone who knows what he is doing. If its cost efficient I dont know but generally the products you can buy outside a dealer seem far better in spec's and quality. Of course keep in mind that just an alarm (whatever model & company that might be) should not make you feel 100% secure. Again no alarm seems not too good. Hope that helps

Yep, I got a clifford 500 fitted. SHould have been a 1 day job but it took them three days (right up until 4:30 Xmas Eve - I nearly didn't get it back the same year!!!).
So you should warn them that it has the 307 switchgear and is multiplexed etc, as that's what screwed my bunch up.
Apparently the standard alarm is only Cat 2 and I wanted Cat 1. A lot of money but I'm glad I did it (see my other posts on alarms somewhere!) as someone at work was carjacked and BlackJax should solve that

Now that I'm awake, I thought of a couple more reasons.
1. I wanted a microwave bubble for when the roof's down and I'm not sure the standard one does that
2. I didn't get a certificate with the car, and my insurers wanted one. So I sent them the one I got with my clifford, and they replied saying thanks blah blah and "your theft cover is now operative"!!!!!! Blimey, so I wasn't covered for theft without proving the alarm? Also, they insisted on a Cat 1, cat 2 wasn't good enough.
Hope this helps. Pauline

In the UK, car security is based around the Thatcham catagories. I think there are only 3, with cat 1 being the best. Cat 1 means the car has been fitted with an approved combined alarm and immobiliser, cat 2 means the car has been fitted with an electronic immobiliser only, and cat 3 means it has been fitted with a mechanical immobiliser.
