I have rejected 1 and got rid of 2 other faulty ones.
I would say CC over a used SLK.
I would see if the dealer will do you a deal on a n extended warranty. I mean extending the origional 3 years to even longer. Its worth doing now as it will save money later.
Buy her one, she wil;l love it if its not a BAD one.
CC Virgin......

Can't give ya advice about the auto - i got a 2.0.
There have been various problems with the build quality - most minor, some major. Leaks is a common one but it seems to appear less these days. Squeaky brakes are common too. But as others have said, there are people with no problems at all and it seems to depend a bit on luck of the draw and how well you look after it too. I guess that's the same with any car, especially second hand ones.
Most people here LOVE their CC despite any problems they've had. Rob and Derek still recommend them despite major major sagas with them. Robbie sold his and got an SLK. I guess look at the price you wanna pay, the servicing costs for you guys in UK (both are $$$$ here), whether the larger boot space and 2 (small) rear seats in the CC will be of benefit, and just which one you think she'll like better.
Cheers

I have had a 2.0SE since March 2002. Last Christmas I borrowed a 200SLK manual. Thinking this was the way I wanted to go, I started all enthusiastic, and little by little it all ebbed away. The SLK was slightly deficient in so many areas, it was only when I analysed the whole package that the CC became the winner in all but perceived image. The interior space in the SLK is very cramped, with nothing behind the seats for bags or very small people. The driving position is nearly horizontal, preventing you seeing the front of the car. Ditto looking out the rear with the roof up. The bootspace is smaller in the SLK whether the roof is up or down. We literally packed the boot so full for Christmas that when we opened it later, it self-emptied. The economy of the SLK was poor...we struggled to get near 28 mpg on a 500 mile round trip that my CC shows 39-42 mpg. Remember both have a 2.0 petrol engine. The gearchange on the SLK was diabolical, anyone who can get reverse first time in a RHD I applaud....I know you should always specify the auto on a Merc. The piece de resistance came in the Midlands when it snowed. The SLK was moribund....the brakes activated themselves and the computer shut the power off. Result....push it to the kerb and walk. Snowchains would be essential. All this time, front wheel drive cars went about their business as usual. This particular SLK has had several minor technical faults, such as the gear lever coming out of its socket...more than once. I know that I made the right choice....my CC is superb...just needs a cruise control when my wife won't drive for me.
