OK,
I have worked out what needs to be dismantled in the car and what the speaker sizes are.

Now all I need to know is what to buy.

What setup have you guys/gals got?

Cheers
Chris.

Kenwood MP3 z828 headunit which is fantastic.

Got a home-built sub in the boot with a 1000W Kenwood 10" speaker (for deep bass) and a Sony Xplod 8" (for mid and high bass) and a cheapy 640W amp from Maplins. Pics: http://comevisit.me.uk/gallery/view_alb ... box&page=5 The system does sound fairly good at the moment, but have got the following long-term plans:

1. Replace front speakers with Kenwood components
2. Replace back speakers with Kenwood Dualmags (if they'll fit!)
3. Experiment with a ported sub box rather than sealed for better sound
4. Get a decent amp - possibly Vibe VP2 as they're cheap at the moment!

Alex,

Does the KDC-PSW9521 work with the stalk and display?

Hi Guys

Are the standard stereos actually any good?
I know mine sounds naff when turned up slighty but is it the stereo at fault or the poor quality speakers.
Any ideas what i can do to improve it without too much hassle. I cant put anything in my boot as i always have my boot full of shopping or stuff for work!

Help!!

Luv Lucy

The speakers are pretty poor so changing them would make a difference, but not a huge amount because the speaker enclosures aren't great.

Replacing the headunit would probably give you the best change in quality, although a decent sub in the boot makes the sound soooo much better because you can let the rest of the speakers give out the higher frequencies. You don't have to install a huge boot-hogging amp & sub - some companies do subs that fit nicely to the edge so not taking up too much room.
