That's slander i never said thatJust to play devi's advocate hereI've never left mine in gear ever since someone rammed into the back of one of my old cars and trashed the engine coz it was in gear.......But lets say one day your car did start rolling down a hill and smashed into 2 or 3 other cars..now i dont think the Insurance guys are gonna be very accomodating when they find out that your handbreak was down...and i dont think they are gonna buy your logic about the wheel direction either....

1. 2. And just how do you think it's going to roll down hill with the wheels kerbed?
3. Who said the handbrake was down?
4. If they know how to drive, they will already know about kerbing wheels on a hill.
5. Go and visit San Francisco. It's actually an offence there *not* to kerb your wheels on a hill.

2) Rather be safe than sorry!!
3) Who said it was up?
4) They'll probably know about the handbrake first!
5)Yeah well ,in California its also against the law to shoot any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale......for real!
5b) Its also against the law for women to drive while wearing a house coat....go figure

So you'd be ok if you were parked on a hill while shooting, but you'd have to stop if your wheels weren't kerbed, your handbrake broke and the engine weren't left in gear

2. There's no possible way a car can roll down a hill with its wheels kerbed, unless it's on sheet ice or similar. In which case, neither handbrake nor gearbox will help. The handbrake is much more likely to fail than the gearbox, but even the engine can be persuaded to turn if given a sufficient shove. Kerbing the wheels is by far the most effective method of preventing a car rolling away. Even the highway code recommends it.2) Rather be safe than sorry!!

3. So you assumed that I don't apply the handbrake just because I didn't explicitly state that I do?

easily solved ......................
never park on a hill
personally i never leave my car in gear and it bugs me with ppl that do. it won't be the first time, more like 10th that someone has moved my car for me, normally at work, left it in gear and i nearly launch it into a bollard or something when i go to start it

2) I reckon the safest is just to chain it to the tree next to you
3) In a war of words never leave your self open to interpretation
