Hi all, im lookin to renew my insurance and would appreciate some constructive advice on good insurance companys to try out...
I just gone 19 and have a 206cc SE and have no no claims, if i wanted to try and get the car in my own name who would i try out...i never bothered before cuz of the fact that the quote will more than likely be rediculous...
What i really want to do is get the policy in my mums name on any driver, the car is insured with CIS at the moment and is costing 1700 per year but i would like it cheaper and preferebly with a company that allows modifications such as lowering, induction kit etc...my mum is around 40 with lots of no claims...anybody suggest who i should try???

Thanx

Steve :D

Well, if I were you I'd start getting some no claims in your own name for a start!

Try Tesco or Direct line for a mainstream quote.
Or Endsleigh if you're a student or work in the public sector (you'll get a discount)

Do a search and you'll find posts referring to the firms to avoid, and the firms who accept mods.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

The best thing to do is go on to confused.com

They are brilliant! You have to fill out all your details which takes 10 mins or so, but they then e-mail you back with about 20 different companies starting with the best price. It's well worth it as they are independent and you don't have to go on to loads of sites and put in your details loads of times. I think they e-mail you back within 24 hours. I did this and saved myself over £50. Lots of my mates have done it too and all got good deals. I'm now with the Halifax, but obviously it depends on your circumstances/age etc which company comes out best. At the moment, Halifax, Churchills and e-sure (calm down dear, it's a commercial - hee hee!) seem to be coming out the best for people I know.

I was always lazy and left it until the last minute so just stuck with the same insurance company, but now I use confused.com every time! They should get commission from me for this!!! Let me know how you get on.

I just gone 19 and have a 206cc SE and have no no claims

Sorry mate, You're gonna pay through the teeth. :(
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing I'm probably the closest to your age here. I'm about to turn 21 this month, but I got my CC when I was 18. My first year I didn't have any no claims.

Firstly, the reason I had no no claims was because from the age of 17 (when I passed my test 2 months after my Birthday) to 18 I went on my Mum's insurance on a 1.3 Corolla. Then, after I'd been driving for a year, I went on my own through CIS on my Corolla. Half way through this year, I made the order for my CC. CIS refeused to insure me on this by myself because I had to be over 21 to drive it.

The hunt began for a cheap insurance company...

My first years insurance: 18 - 19 with no no claims and 1.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area with no mods and doing 10,000 miles a year. Cheapest price: Tesco - £2300 with a £450 excess.
Believe me when I say cheapest, I phoned every insurance company in the back of every car magazine and did all of these automated online ones as well. Added Alloys (cost me about £700 new) half way through the year (glutten for punnishment!), told the insurance company who bent me over, pulled down my trousers and told me that I would have to give them £300 extra for the next 6 months. Final amount paid £2600. :x :x :x

Second years insurance: 19 - 20 with 1 years no claims and 2.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area, Alloys and Lexus light clusters and doing 10,000 miles a year. Again, phoned everyone! Cheapest this time: Adrian Flux - £1600 with a £500 excess.

Third years (this one): 20 - 21 with 2 years no claims and 3.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area, Alloys and Lexus light clusters and doing 10,000 miles a year. Again, phoned everyone. Cheapest this time: Eagle Star Direct - £1250 with a £350 excess.

My suggestions to you are.

1) Get on your own insurance straight away because no claims is what makes the difference!!
2) Unless you have money coming out of your ears, I suggest you leave the car standard for at least the first year you're on your own insurance.

Is the car yours or your mums? Personally, If I could go back, I would have built up a year or twos no claims on a small car before getting an Insurance group 12 (Mine's only a 206CC S!!!!).

If you PM me your E-Mail addy, I can send you an excel sheet with the companies that were the cheapest for me with numbers etc on it.

Whatever you decide mate...Good Luck, hope you don't get screwed over as much as I did.
Andy.

I got my CC when I was 21 and had my own insurance. Even when I was learning at 17 in my little old Fiat Panda I had my own insurance, cost a bit back then in `97 but its the best way to go. I am now 23 and pay around £860 for insurance with Direct Line. I think they are quite good, but I have been with them since my Panda days ;)

Your right Andy, it is best to have your OWN insurance. :)

Yeah i know, they were far far cheaper than anyone else but the service was unless when i was trying to sort out the CC cos it was brand new and couldn't be registered until i had the insurance doc for it (which they sent 5 times before getting it right), they did give me £50 compensation for it though as they delayed me getting the car for 2 weeks

Blimey that's incredibly cheap....I'm 30 on Sunday, have 9 years no claims always had my own insurance, no convictions and I paid £600 + this year for my 04 reg 2.0 Allure !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was involved in an RTA last year but the other driver admitted full liabilty.

Think I must have gone wrong somewhere even though I did do some research. I do know that some companies charge you a new car premium so maybe that's where I came a cropper. Unless you have a brand new car too ?

After my RTA though I was a lot more careful about what kind of things you get with insurances like personal accident cover, legal expenses cover, hire cars etc.

What do you get with Privilege ? I'd definately think about moving next year if they are that cheap.

i have a 2.0SE, am 29 with 8yrs ncd (protected). covered by adrian flux at £630 due to the modifications with guaranteed courtesy car. also have 3pts, 6pts for insurance as the first set are 4yrs old. i also drive 20k miles pa.

i could have got covered for £480 with axa direct but they don't insure cars that are lowered.

My car isn't modded yet, so it'll go sky high. My last modified car cost me £800, but I was 21 then! We'll see....

My premium this year for my 2.0se was £850+ and that
was the cheapest!.

now would accept this was a fair and reasonable amount
if I was for example early twenties and have only a few
years no claims under my belt.

BUT - I've turned 30 this year, have been driving since 17
with insurance in my own name - no convictions and never
had an accident (touch wood!).

Think the arm gets stuck in a bit over here by the insurance
companies!!!
