I just gone 19 and have a 206cc SE and have no no claims
Sorry mate, You're gonna pay through the teeth.
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing I'm probably the closest to your age here. I'm about to turn 21 this month, but I got my CC when I was 18. My first year I didn't have any no claims.
Firstly, the reason I had no no claims was because from the age of 17 (when I passed my test 2 months after my Birthday) to 18 I went on my Mum's insurance on a 1.3 Corolla. Then, after I'd been driving for a year, I went on my own through CIS on my Corolla. Half way through this year, I made the order for my CC. CIS refeused to insure me on this by myself because I had to be over 21 to drive it.
The hunt began for a cheap insurance company...
My first years insurance: 18 - 19 with no no claims and 1.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area with no mods and doing 10,000 miles a year. Cheapest price: Tesco - £2300 with a £450 excess.
Believe me when I say cheapest, I phoned every insurance company in the back of every car magazine and did all of these automated online ones as well. Added Alloys (cost me about £700 new) half way through the year (glutten for punnishment!), told the insurance company who bent me over, pulled down my trousers and told me that I would have to give them £300 extra for the next 6 months. Final amount paid £2600. :x :x :x
Second years insurance: 19 - 20 with 1 years no claims and 2.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area, Alloys and Lexus light clusters and doing 10,000 miles a year. Again, phoned everyone! Cheapest this time: Adrian Flux - £1600 with a £500 excess.
Third years (this one): 20 - 21 with 2 years no claims and 3.5 years driving experience, car in a garage in a respectable area, Alloys and Lexus light clusters and doing 10,000 miles a year. Again, phoned everyone. Cheapest this time: Eagle Star Direct - £1250 with a £350 excess.
My suggestions to you are.
1) Get on your own insurance straight away because no claims is what makes the difference!!
2) Unless you have money coming out of your ears, I suggest you leave the car standard for at least the first year you're on your own insurance.
Is the car yours or your mums? Personally, If I could go back, I would have built up a year or twos no claims on a small car before getting an Insurance group 12 (Mine's only a 206CC S!!!!).
If you PM me your E-Mail addy, I can send you an excel sheet with the companies that were the cheapest for me with numbers etc on it.
Whatever you decide mate...Good Luck, hope you don't get screwed over as much as I did.
Andy.
