We have three problems which our local dealer has yet to resolve. To date they have fitted a new coil and lead and new plugs and extensions but with no effect. The problems are:
1. When warm, engine ‘lumps’ whilst idling/stationary at junctions and traffic lights.
2. When cold, engine fails to respond to throttle when pulling away from stationary – Not very nice when pulling out at a busy junction! – Advised by dealer's Technician that ECU holds back electric throttle when cold. Agreed, acceleration is slower when cold, but this is not the problem being experienced. The car just crawls away leaving you in the path of oncoming traffic at a junction or roundabout!
3. When turned off momentarily, eg to open garage door, engine fails to restart immediately – Will either turn for some time before firing up or restart on what appears to be just 2 or 3 cylinders, sometimes a bit of both.

Any suggestions?

I assume you have the latest engine management software?

Thanks Alexls.

The answer is ...... I don't know!

The car is a UK car bought new from a dealer in October 2001. They had had it for a while as the person who ordered it cancelled their order.

The Peugeot garage I have taken it to has supposedly checked all the diagnostics etc and nothing has shown up. I have a copy of the workshop job sheet and there is no mention of any software updates.

What difference would this make? Have you had similar problems?

Alexis may well have pinpointed your problem, the new software may help.

I had the same lumpiness problem on idle with my 2 ltr (as other members have had) and Peugeot fixed it at the 6 month service by downloading a new program into the engine management system, now she's smooth running and flies without wings -yipeee!

No, I haven't had any similar problems.

In fact, I've had absolutely no problems with my 206cc. This probably has something to do with the fact that it won't be arriving for 2 months

Car has been in again today.

Told car had had software updates downloaded on previous visits. Has today been 'linked' up with Peugeot again and they have suggested the following:
- Replace coil and lead again ... with a MODIFIED unit.
- Investigate condition/continuity of a cable.

Car to go back again when part arrives!

The software solution sounded so simple and painless - Watch this space!

Since last post on this topic, have been trying to reject car but was told it had to go back to the supplying dealer to let them try to solve problems, (had previously been to Camdens of Bedford).

Well, we got the car back today after 4 weeks at Warwick Wright Brent Cross.

They say they have replaced/done the following:
- Coil, spark plugs and leads, (already tried by Camdens of Bedford and made no difference).
- Condensor.
- Motorized throttle valve.
- Manifold pressure sensor.
- Carried out an ECU download.

Problems 1 and 2 still not sorted - can't comment on 3 as it is intermittent.

We are going to attempt rejection again.
