Hello all, long time no...er...post :)

My venerable CC is about to crack the 50000 mile barrier and has just developed another new and exciting problem

When I press and then release the brake pedal I can hear a hissing noise, which seems to be coming from the bulkhead behind the pedals. I'm assuming this is a brake servo problem (knackered vacuum seal or such like) but am interested to see if:

a) anyone else has had this problem
b) what action is required to fix it
c) what it cost (I've recently shelled out for a new battery and a replacement rear exhaust section I'm hoping the cost isn't too scary)

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Dan,

Mine's always made a noise too, but this is different - it sounds like air escaping from a valve (which I'm guessing is pretty much what it is) and can go on for 10 seconds or so. I've not lost any braking force, as far as I can tell, so I'm not hugely worried about it but it is bloody annoying.

[snip]...isnt it just hydraulics?[snip]
Not sure what it is, but it definitely *rhymes* with hydraulics. ;)

Cheers for the reply,
Justin.

yes i have had this prob (bout 5 a week)
need new servo
unsure of price (spec dependant)
worse case you lose all braking assistance.
hope this helps :)

Cheers for that reap, the hissing's been a lot less pronounced since I replaced my front brake pads (and disks) last weekend. It's still there but it tails off after a second or two. I think I'll keep an eye (or more accurately an ear) on it for now. If I do end up getting it fixed I'll post the details on this thread.

Just thought I'd let you all know, it *was* the brake servo - just paid 180 quid to have it fixed by a Peugeot dealer. My cc's just got through it's 3rd set of rear brake pads - 8000 miles this lot lasted. Grrr
