Hi,
I have a 2001 206 GLX 1.6 16v which has been running very badly for months now. I took it to Ecosse Peugeot some time ago to get it investigated and they said that it was a fault with the throttle position sensor or the throttle body. They programmed new parameters for something or other and said that it sometimes fixes the fault. It seemed to for a while, although it is hard to tell as the fault only occured at full throttle and almost red-line RPM, something which my girlfriend rarely achieves.
Over the past few months, the running of the car has got much worse. It is very lumpy almost all of the time, has uneven tickover, frequently displays the orange warning light during normal driving. When it does this during normal driving, it continues to run relatively well ie doesn't cut out. However, if I take it to maximum revs in 3rd gear, the light will come on and the engine will practically cut out and have absolutely no power. Guaranteed. This obviously means no overtaking for me. Also, if i sit with my foot steady on the accelerator pedal, with a view to hold it steady at eg 3000rpm, the revs jump about.
I bought an elm interface from SKPang to read the fault codes. There were three instances of the P0121 fault. After clearing, this code reappears along with the huge power loss if i red-line it in 3rd gear and other gears too sometimes. The code represents "Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem".
So, does anyone have any experience of this problem and fault code? Is the throttle position sensor easy to replace? It looks a bit awkward to get to, behind the strut turret and close to the bulkhead.. Does the ECU need any programming after it is replaced meaning it is a dealer job? Same questions for throttle body.
My problem sounds very similar to those who have had cylinder head work done to rectify the fault. If it is a problem with the valves, would it show the P0121 fault code?
Sorry for the extensive post and numerous questions - I wanted to provide all the information I could in the hope of resolving this issue.
I would be extremely grateful for any information anyone could provide to help me.
Thanks in advance,
Gordon
