He was in a tree when the place got flooded. Died. Then the place dried to a desert.

He went for a walk in the desert. Naked and carrying a stick. Died. End of mystery.

Ok give this one a try
He was in a hot air balloon, and the balloon was running out of gas, so they had to throw everything out including their clothes. They drew sticks, and this man got the shorter end, and was thrown out of the balloon

Yes, that's the one. I knew I'd heard it before

How about this one then...Jack and Jill are dead on the floor, all that is nearby is broken glass and water. The window is open. How did they die?

Hey that was quick!! OK one more....Two men are in a concentration camp, one is good at languages (German) the other at producing documents (German) they teach each other and eventually escape. Yet they don't get far before they are arrested. Why?

Alternative answer to the desert riddle from a colleague:
The man was an American marine on his finals days of desert training, and in one of his final training missions they drop him off in the desert and he has 2 days to find his way back to base, unfortunately for him a sand storm blows up and he gets disorientated, when the storm dies down he gets picked up by rebels who strip of all his cloths and releases him into a the desert with only a stick, the rest is history…………….
