Aha - I was hoping you might say that - that's my colour too!
The place that you got the door from - do you know if they had a N/S/F wing and bonnet?

OK, well it was worth asking.
If you happen to spot any others on your travels, can you bear me in mind please, and let me know if you see anything? Thanks. :D

Done a bit more today.

Filler in the scores on the bumper. This is a special Isopon filler made just for plastic bumpers

Door off too and gaskets and trim removed ready to cut rear wing off.

Trial fit new wing prior to paint.

Stand by your computers for the next thrilling episode

That's interesting (for a geek like me!): isn't that a 2 piece plastic inner wing I see?
Mine just has a 1 piece one on each side. I thought the earlier ones had 2 piece and the later ones had 1 piece - but I could be wrong. At least it'll make things a bit easier for you to replace.

Yep. 2 piece wheelarch liner.

On with the story.......
After trial fitting the wing, I found the gap where it joins the sill too big, so after *adjusting* the bottom fixing, it's fine. This is a common problem with patterned parts.

Image

I then epoxy primered the wing and door. Although the door was the right colour, on closer inspection it had a few small dings of the type you get when someone opens their door into yours in a carpark. So I repaired them.
This is only primer at this stage,
Image

Then loaded the door with a couple of coats of 2K filler primer
Image

After flatting back, applied another coat of epoxy and flatted that too

Image

Followed by Obsidian black basecoat (note how dull it is before clearcoat laquer sprayed on)

Next stage is Laquer coat, and by then hopefully new rear wing will have arrived and I can get on with fitting that.
Cheers Col.

OK so new wing arrived, so out with the scissors to cut off old wing ready for new one to be fitted. Tried the door and wing on for size, but can't finish fit until rear wing on (got to line the door to sill & rear wing, as that will be fixed, then line up front wing with door and bonnet.

I used a different clear coat than the one I normally use and it has come out wth a little bit of orange peel. When it has hardened fully, I will flat & polish it

Come on Enright, I might even get mine done first! lol!!

Yes Sue. Quite pleased with what can be acheived with an hour or two here and there.

Paintwork all done awaiting final flat and polish (except for front bumper as I completely forgot about it. Doh!!)
Door and front wing fully fitted and panel gaps set. I won't get anymore time with it until Mon at the earliest, so will hopefully post finished car sometime next week.
Then I need to book VIC check & MOT.

Wow, that is starting to look superb. I'm envious of your bodywork skills - to me they are a black art. Give me oily bits and wires to sort out any day, but keep panel damage away from me!

PS if you get chance, could you check out your ECU part number for me and tell me what it is?
