Check the earth leads from the battery to the gearbox and engine as they can break and you would lose the poeer to turn the starter.
Then double check the live side to make sure it is tight on the battery etc.

Thank you Gazza, I did return the car to the dealer as the clutch went and they replaced the kit am I correct in thinking they would of had to disconnect the earth strap to the gear box? obviously I drove the car home and had use of it up to the time it stopped.
I will check it later and update here

My son had a new clutch fitted on his old 306. That had problems starting afterwards and we traced that to loose leads that hadn't been re-fitted and tightened correctly. Sorted those out and he had no more problems starting it.

Thank you Ron,
I have just checked the earth leads the one to the body was never undone the gearbox one had been undone I took it off cleaned and copper slipped the contact point, and re tightened it. Sadly the same symptoms are still there. At a loss now what to do with it.

I'd wipe the copper slip off .. get a proper metal-to-metal contact. Take a piece of emery paper to the two mating surfaces so they are clean and make sure it's tight.Sylvester wrote:Thank you Ron,

Double check the live/positive connection to the battery too as if you have the flip-off one like mine, they can loosen. (Stupid idea to have the quick-release on the positive side as everyone knows it should be the negative terminal to come off first on a negative earth car!)
I'm sure it should turn over on the starter even if the immobiliser has cut in .. that just stops it firing ...
If the starter isn't kicking in then I'd start there. Can you get to the starter connections in case one is loose? If they had the gearbox off, then they could have disturbed them in the process and using it in between has loosened something at that end.
It's going to have to be a slow methodical check of everything one step at a time: connections, fuses in the dash and engine compartment, relays, etc.

Thank you Gazza,
I will redo the earth strap today, as for the starter motor is it at the back of the engine inline with the block? I am sadly limited to access on my drive as it shingle.

Re: New Shropshire 206 cc owner
I am going to try to get to it from the top, give it a bit of a tap with a hammer and a scrap of wood see if it does anything mind you I would of thought trying to tow start it might of jarred starter free if that was the problem.
However will check the leads first.
Thanks for all the advice everyone :-)

Re: New Shropshire 206 cc owner
A final update on the starting saga, after rechecking all the wiring earths etc, and connections to the starter I finally removed the starter motor.
The solenoid was faulty (open circuit) however the snapped off tooth on the sprag gear didn't help I found it fortunately it was probably done when the clutch was replaced, any way I have fitted a reconditioned starter motor (£55.36).
Starts and purrs as it should now. A huge thank you everyone that offered advice
THANK YOU

My pleasure Ron, I have added a recommendation for the company that supplied my starter motor in correct section, a professional company which is rare these days.
I did the ebay thing and found three starters however after reading the feed back I decided a Chinese starter motor wasn't for me lol. Westlancs Auto Electrics are well worth a look they give 18 months warranty on their units and cheap too.
