Min 000000 Max Faultsign please help

Hiya, I have had my 206 cc 1.6 petrol for 2 weeks now, when I collected it everything was ok but when I started it the following day, the oil indicated min 000000 max then the fault sign, I did check the oil which was over the max mark on the dipstick, so my dad told me to drive the car to burn the excess oil off which I have done for the last two weeks, but the car still shows this config everytime I start the car. Do I have a problem, have spoken to the garage where I bought it from and he says this is normal and isn't a fault. Please can somebody tell me if this is true or not.

What do you mean by the fault sign? How do you know that this relates to the oil?

When the ignition is switched on the oil level displays for about 10 seconds, after the servicing information.

When you checked the oil using the dipstick did you ensure that the car was on level ground, and the engine had been stopped for no less than 10 minutes?

If the dipstick showed the oil level to be too high, by how much? Seriously excessive oil can cause damage to the engine.

If the car is showing "FAULT" then this is not normal, no.
