New Owner needing advice

Post by Debbie150 »

I bought my Silver 2.0Litre o2 Reg in Jan this year. Last month had the top down several times and loved it. Got in my car last night started it up and thought that my bones were being shook to within an inch of my life, managed to limp the car 1/2 mile home. Changed all 4 spark plugs this morning, fired the car up engine sound like a dream, however, antipollution fault showing on first starting engine and engine management light statying on. No prob;ems in performance, has anyone got anu ideas???

You would need to put it on a diagnostics machine to tell for sure, but could be lambda (as suggested) or coil pack is also a good candidate. Don't just guess though or you could end up spending more than neccessary.

As previously stated, the lambda sensor could be at fault - or it could simply be doing its job correctly and telling the ecu that the fuel/air mixture or ignition has been faulty. You may find that it will clear if you fill up with some good quality fuel such as BP Ultimate or Shell V Power petrol, and take it for a good fast run. There could be a build up of unburnt fuel deposits on causing the lambda sensor to signal a fault. Get those burnt off and you'll probably find that the message will clear on its own. I'd check the air filter first though before doing that to make sure that it is not dirty or wet. If it is then a new air filter may in itself solve the problem.

That's good news Debbie. Sounds as if you've sorted it by renewing the spark plugs. I wonder how long the old ones had been in.
My wife's car is still on its original spark plugs at 7 years old, the car has only done 26,000 miles. I have a spare set of new ones ready just in case though. If I haven't had to change them when the car gets to 10 years old I'll renew them at the same time as the cambelt and water pump.
