Someone levers open my car door - would alarm detect this?

Post by indigovervet »

I have a 2001 Peugeot 206. When we got it we got a key that operates the central locking, but not the remote control keyfob. I know the engine immobiliser is working, but I am not sure if the alarm is working.
Someone has got into it by getting a crowbar in the gap between the passenger door and the car and bending the top part of the door enough that he can pull up the doodah and unlock the central locking from the inside. I bent the door back into shape.
What I need to know is
- is there any way to test if the alarm is actually working? (without breaking car)
- if I spent money on a remote control keyfob and this made the alarm work, would it normally protect against this kind of attack (ie bending the door open)? Or does it just go off if someone breaks a window?
I appreciate your help guys, thanks very much.

I think that the only way to set the alarm is with a remote fob, which means I doubt if you can test it without getting one. However, once you have done got a fob, then I found that if you lock the car using it, and then open the boot with the key, that sets it off. Any door (or the bonnet latch if connected) should produce the same result. This is relying on the voltage drop sensing of the system.
If you have ultrasonic sensors fitted at the tops of the A-pillars which look like tiny speakers, then they should sense any movement. They can be tested by locking the car from the fob with a window open, and then sticking your hand through it.
