no power to Starter Motor

Post by charles007 »

Hi,

I have a 2002 206cc. after i parked it and went to use it again the starter would not operate. Read all the topics and they seemed to point towards it being gthe starter

removed the starter (wow! dont want to do that too often!) and when i tried it against the battery, it worked perfectly ! That means i was right in my original theory that it was not the starter because there was no 'click' or any indication at all just complete silence when the key was turned.

It seems to me that this is a different electrical fault. Any ideas? Is there a relay? no fuses are listed as starter fuses and the fuses all look ok but when the key is turned there is absolutely nothing at all. Everything else lights up as expected

What can i check next? the car is a 1.6 Automatic. Tried wiggling the gear lever while turning the key but no sign of life at all

Any help grately appreciated.

Hi
I had a similar problem.
Car would not start but could hear the starter solenoid operating.
Starter tested ok across the battery but not in the car.

Ended up going for a new starter anyway and it worked.
Testing it across the battery doesnt mean the starter is ok as its not got an engine to turn when out of the car.

If it isn't the park/neutral interlock then my money would be on the starter.

Have fun doing it all again..... unless you've already sorted it without telling us.
