Horn not working...

Post by haylisluff »

Hi guys

I wondered if anyone has had problems with their horn before, as mine isn't working :( even though it went through an MOT 4weeks ago...

When I press the steering wheel we can hear the relay clicking under the bonnet but no horn...

we have taken the horn off and put 12v through it and it beeps, so that is fine...

The fuse is good, have swapped it for the another of the same amps and nothing...

My partner put a multimeter over the fuse and this gets no amps running through it when the horn is pressed?

I can't imagine that it's the connectors under the steering wheel cover as they are making a connection and its running to the relay...although this is with my extremely limited knowledge of electrics... ;)

I spoke with peugeot who said that it sounds like it is the comms unit that needs replacing...346 quid to supply and fit! which I'm loathed to pay lol

Any thoughts??

Thanks in advance

:love-thx:

Perhaps the relay itself?

Thanks

Should be under the fusebox under the bonnet.

Hello guys,
I'm the aforementioned boyfriend, iv looked at the car and one thing that stood out is the fuse boxes both inside the car and outside the car are very different to the diagrams in the handbooks and pfd are there alternatives?
I have photos but can't seem to attach them! if anyone can tell me where the horn fuse maybe I would be very happy

The car is a 2003 1.6 206cc

My horn is exactly the same.... I have checked the fuse, and that's ok.
I don't know if it clicks or not.

I don't know how to check if the airbag work - there are no airbag warning lights on.

So I need to suspect
1. take the horn out and plug it in somewhere - can I use some wire from the car battery?
2. see if there's a clicking sound when I press the horn - do I need someone to press it and i have my ear to the relay?
3. take off the airbag and 'stuff' so i can read the comm 2000 numbers - and how do I do that? Has someone seen a video?

Thanks.

I have tkaen the airbag off - it was really difficult as there is only 1 hole to help move the clips - in fact, it took me the longer to take that off than taking off a speed sensor!

So, now I have the airbag off, but I don't know what to do next?
1. I don't know how to take the clips off - pic 1
2. I don't know if there's a lead I can clean to see if the horn works from either the steering wheel or the airbag - pic 2 and 3

I've looked at my Haynes manual too - but it's not that clear what to do..

Please help!!

Try here http://206info.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t ... wheel.html ... you might have to register.

And run a search for Horn not working while you are there ... common problem

Ok, so I ended up not having to take the air bag off;
1. I went under the front right of car, and with some difficulty, managed to get the actual horn off.
2. I used a circuit tester (and another pair of hands) to test if power went to the horn end of the wiring - it did.
3. Using 2 wires I connected the horn to the car battery direct to see if the horn worked - it didn't.
Therefore it was the actual horn that was broken.
4. A quick trip to eBay with the part number gave me a 2nd hand horn...
5. As it was 2nd hand, I tested that it worked using the 2 wires to connect directly to the battery (then very quickly disconnected as the horn was loud).
6. Replaced the horn under the front right of the car.

So it was a simple fix.

Well done, not too expensive either. After 15 years under the car it hadn't done bad had it...
