Water pooling on rear passenger floor

Hi folks,
Mrs K's 206cc has been bone dry since we bought it but this last few weeks, water has been pooling in the rear passenger floor area.. Yes, I know it's been the wettest December on record but I had hoped that we would have the dryest cc on record.... it was not to be.

There is no sign of dampness on the carpet's vertical edges, just on the floor so it would seem that water is dripping from the roof-to-rear window seal area, directly onto the floor.

So here's the question. How long can I keep the roof part-folded while I apply silicone grease to the seals?

I know the engine must be kept running but for how long can I release the switch before the roof ceases to operate again? Can I do, say, three minutes, then re-start it and stop again for another three minutes? Any advice will be much appreciated.

IGNORE THIS BIT - NOW OPENED I managed to download the "leak document " No. 02E.doc but these three additional documents downloaded but will not open for me: Leak 01, Leak 01E and Leak 02. If anyone has these in working order, can you please let me know? Thanks.

I think the best way would be to follow the procedure for manual raising of the roof at the back of the handbook - that way, you can pause for as long as you like.

If you don't have a handbook, go to INFOTEC and choose language, car and date. I know there's a copy of the handbook on this site, but there doesn't seem to be a link to it in the Portal, so I can't find it. There are also some procedures in the repair section with some useful illustrations, but the links to some essential parts do not work.

Better still, when the roof is folded into the boot I think the seal between top and window is accessible, by opening the boot in the normal manner.

Another thought. Nothing wrong with silicone grease. but Holts Rubber and Vinyl Care (e.g. Halfords) is very effective at restoring life to old seals.

Hello CapnCol and IanL. Thanks for the responses. I'll put the roof into the boot and lubricate it in-situ rather than risk it by part-lowering the roof....knowing my luck, it would probably stick in that position.

Ian, I checked Halfords but that Holts rubber revive product doesn't seem to be available now. There is another product that looks suitable, something called "WURTH GUMMI hard & soft-top seal restore". It has a few good writeups.... anyone tried it?

Finally, I also intend to remove the side seal (the one that goes on the side of the roof panel above the door) and re-seal it to the roof with clear silicone sealer as per the Norway lads' advice leaflet. Is that seal just glued in place? Or are there any screws, hog-rings or other hardware I should watch out for?

I have always used clear silicon grease available in tubs from my local plumbers merchant. Expensive, but does the job. I have also used it on the door seals when they started sticking. It sorted them out too.

Sorry. It seems my memory can't be trusted - having done an EBay search, it turns out it's Auto-Glym, not Holts.

Hello again IanL Cap'n'col and Grandad M,
just to update you all.

Yesterday morning I went to our local hardware specialist and purchased a couple of tubes of Servisol clear silicone grease. I part-lowered the roof (3 minutes max) and applied the grease to all the seals I could reach in the 3 minutes available. I then repeated the procedure for the seals I missed first-time around.
Last night it poured down here so this morning was the big test. The carpet had no water Yippee.

Thanks for all your help....Mrs is a much happier bunny now.

Here's the stuff I used.... worked out around £7-50 for two tubes but I only needed to use half-a-tube to do the job.

I also have this problem, the water seems to leak in two places, where the front section of the roof meets the windscreen at the latch and where the front section meets the rear section at the corner, i have attempted multiple times to fill with black silicone but it just makes no difference, are there any guides or should i be looking at new seals ? The rear passenger foot well is soaking, a puddle is on the rear seat and drivers seat. Its drips on me when driving. I have tried to grease the whole rubber joint with silicone but i think its only entering at the corner where both parts and the window meet if you get what i mean.

Silicone sealer will do diddly squat on rubber. It doesn't stick too well. Peel it off and so long as the roof clamps are adjusted correctly, and the rubberwork in good order, silicone grease should sort it.
